NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Its is fairly common for Chrome and Safari web applications to send native desktop notifications. Support for desktop notifications would improve JIRA's experience tenfold.

Many other sites and SAAS have already implemented this kind of feature. Why is it that it takes 8 years with no progress what so ever from Atlassian.

As countless others have stated, desktop notifications would help the workflow so much. It's great that on my mobile app I get Jira notifications but a workaround when you are sitting behind your PC/Mac. I don't want to rely on my mobile device for my notifications!

How is this not implemented? Relying on email notifications in 2024? Web push notifications have been around for a decade. Worse, push notifications existed in the desktop apps before they were discontinued in favor of a cloud app, so the functionality used to exist but has regressed.

Can't believe that this issue 7 years old and it's still not implemented. Email notification are a pain !

Jira Cloud and Jira Service Management should have a popup notification for Activity Streams. This would be extremely helpful and should be pushed up into a release for efficiency.

We currently use a the Zephr Jira Cloud app from the marketplace for testing. This app has desktop notifications through the browser enabled when you select their specific issue types. There is no reason Jira Cloud and Jira Service Management should not have this feature across all issue types. This needs to be pushed up into a release.

+ 1 There multi fold benefits. User would get immediate notification as soon there is an update(user benefits). Email traffic would reduce load on outlook servers (infra benefit). Reduced email traffic means reduced carbon footprint as well(environmental benefit).

So everyone has something in it. A native app or browser notification either should work. This should not be limited to jira, instead all the products should be covered which are there under Atlassian umbrella.

+1 on this. If we are going to really lose the native Mac app, we should at least get push notifications so that our inboxes aren't flooded with emails (or for those opting not to receive email notifications, not to have to constantly check the website for new notifications).

I spend my day on the Jira website for work, and the sole reason I use the macOS desktop app is for push notifications.  Having native desktop notifications is a no-brainer, especially now that said macOS desktop app is being deprecated.

+1 and please don't list a marketplace app as a solution. I do not want to have to pay for something that is common, or should be.
