@mention is not working properly on Internet Explorer 8

NOTE: This bug report is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding bug report.

If @mention autocomplete is used in a field in which user name is already expanded after the cursor, it overwrites the last name instead doing the expansion.

      Steps to replicate the issue.

      • Write "Some text blah and some more text blahblah"
      • Place the cursor after blah
      • Use @mention by writing for example @tuu and use dropdown menu to autocomplete it to @tuukka.ilomaki which becomes tuukka.ilomaki
      • The result is the text blahblah at the end is overwritten

The problem occurs specifically on Internet Explorer 8. It works fine on Internet Explorer 9 and Mozilla Firefox.

      Workaround
In some cases waiting a few seconds before selecting the user from the dropdown will prevent this issue from occurring.

            Hi knguyen,

We still support Internet Explorer 8 and will do so until the last JIRA 6.2.x release is delivered.

Having said, as announced at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/End+of+Support+Announcements+for+JIRA#EndofSupportAnnouncementsforJIRA-201310ie8
on October 2013 JIRA 6.3 and later will no longer support Internet Explorer 8, details on this decision are explained on the announcement page.

Consequently, it would be a good idea to prepare for this change and consider adopting a newer browser for JIRA usage. Modern browsers that are up to date will provide you with the best overall JIRA user experience that we can provide.

            Hope the information helps.

            Regards,

            Oswaldo Hernández.

We are on Jira v6.1.6 and running into many problems with IE8. The support platforms still say IE8 is supported is not very factual when features like @mention is not working. We have slowness, and IE completely locking up for users. I don't think Atlassian tested much under IE8 based on our findings.

            Hi bboulden / tuukka.ilomaki,

This issue is not currently scheduled for any upcoming JIRA maintenance release.

Issues affecting only IE8 will be prioritised / fixed according to the same criteria we have used in the past for them, until the last maintenance release in the JIRA 6.2 line (6.2.x)

As JIRA 6.2 will be the last version to support IE8, I suspect this will never be fixed.

Has there been any progress on this?

bboulden, I'll add a workaround to the description.

We are having the same problems at our company. Please fix soon or advise in the meantime.

In JIRA 5.2.8 and Internet Explorer 8, typing "hello @admin", and clicking on the Admin username in drop down list will produce the following: "[ ~admin]ello @admin"
It goes to the front of the typed message instead.
