The quick search instantly shows most relevant results for issues and projects, and refreshes whenever you modify your search term.

You can read more details about the feature and other capabilities that we added in Jira Software 7.8 here.

      Kind regards,

As per the discussion below this feature was briefly available in JIRA in 2012.
            https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/118231/quick-search-popup-no-longer-works
The feature also appeared and disappeared again in Q3 of 2015, but without any communication from Atlassian.

The feature is very very useful for managers who constantly hop between issues. The popup allows to "right click" and "open in new tab" without leaving the page or tab where the user was working initially. Please add this back.

The feature still works in Confluence Cloud at the time of writing which means that common functionality is inconsistent among the Atlassian applications. This should be addressed.
