Support Markdown in description, comments, etc

Look, Markdown is a lingua franca for developers. I don't know why users continually ask for Markdown support and—despite supporting it in other products—Atlasssian continues to ignore the calls, but it's a massive pain point. The proprietary wiki formatting is like a confusing mishmash of BBcode, wikipedia tags, Markdown, rST, and just whatever else. It's confusing, and doubly so since every other tool I use supports it, including Github, Gmail, Pivotal Tracker, Hugo, etc.
