Information regarding use of validation-query-timeout is not consistent.

NOTE: This bug report is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

In Tuning Database Connections it states "If you specify a Validation Query above, then you should specify a value for the Validation Query Timeout too."

However, in Surviving Connection Closures it says " This should only be done for MySQL" and " If the Validation Query Timeout is used on any database other than MySQL it will cause significant problems with the JIRA instance."

Which is truthier? The other should be updated to match.

      Cheers,
      Morg.

            Hi mknicely,

For MySQL it is not necessary to explicitly specify neither of the two values. For this specific database, we have both a default validation query ("select 1") and a default validation query timeout (3).

The customer is free to customise these should they want to / or need to, but it's not required for this specific database type.

            Hope the info above helps.

            Cheers,
            Os.
