ScreenshotApplet throws ClassNotFoundException (com.atlassian.jira.screenshot.applet.ScreehshotApplet.class)

      Cause

      • ScreenshotApplet throws ClassNotFoundException (com.atlassian.jira.screenshot.applet.ScreehshotApplet.class) for some users
      • The following screenshot shows that users bump into the problem when try to attach a screenshot using the AttachScreenshotApplet. Attaching files directly works for them.
      • This occurs when you have Java 7 installed in the browser such as Mozilla Firefox or even Microsoft Internet Explorer

      Workaround

      • Switch to Java 6 and clear off the browser cache

            If you are experiencing this issue over an ssl (https://) connection, you may want to look at this:
            https://community.oracle.com/message/10332444

            Make sure that the ServerName is set in your ssl.conf (/etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf)

            In my case setting the security levels to Medium didn't help. Same Problems as before with Java Security Setting "High".

            Does changing the Java security setting by going to Java in Control Panel and either setting the security levels to Medium or adding the jira url help?

            For a particular user, lowering the security setting worked.

            Same problem here with JIRA 6.2.4. We will not downgrade our clients to Java6.

            unfortunately i am getting this exception using JIRA 6.2.2 - it seems that this issue is known since 11/2012 (!!!)

            JAVA 6 has reached end of life .... so JAVA 7 should be supported or the feature should be hidden until the issue is fixed

            Unfortunately, this still occurs with Jira 6.2.2.
