Cause
- ScreenshotApplet throws ClassNotFoundException (com.atlassian.jira.screenshot.applet.ScreehshotApplet.class) for some users
- The following screenshot shows that users bump into the problem when try to attach a screenshot using the AttachScreenshotApplet. Attaching files directly works for them.
- This occurs when you have Java 7 installed in the browser such as Mozilla Firefox or even Microsoft Internet Explorer
Workaround
- Switch to Java 6 and clear off the browser cache

If you are experiencing this issue over an ssl (https://) connection, you may want to look at this:

Make sure that the ServerName is set in your ssl.conf (/etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf)
