New sparkler criteria not taking effect if I do things quickly.

I was trying to add the "reporter" criteria to a search. Here is what I did.

1. click on more criteria.
2. type "reporter"
3. hit enter to select this criteria. I was then presented with the open sparkler for Reporter.
4. I typed "jcreen", down arrow to pick JC, hit enter, then escape and the sparkler closed.
5. The criteria lozenge correctly showed "Reporter: jcreenaune" but the results list did NOT honour that criteria. ie there were issues listed from other reporters.

So...

1. I clicked on the Reporter sparkler.
2. I unclicked "JCreenaune", then I clicked it again.
3. This time I waited until the listed issues had changed
4. Then I hit esc to close the sparkler.

I don't want to have to wait before I hit esc to close the sparkler!!
