      Created from https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/45892/is-it-possible-to-add-additional-time-zones-to-jira-4-4

We have jira users across the globe. Many are in India. There is no option to choose any of the major cities in India when configuring your time zone.

Is there a way to add additional cities to the dropdown e.g. New Delhi etc so users can select a more relevant city.

[JRASERVER-27804] add additional time zones in JIRA

JIRA uses the "Canonical" timezones available in the Joda time library, which is in turn based on the de facto standard tz database

The TZ database lists "Asia/Kolkata" as the canonical timezone for India (and lists only "Asia/Calcutta" as an alias).
I suggest that the customer uses this one.
If they think this is undesirable, I guess they can lobby ICANN who are the current maintainers of the TZ database.

JIRA does not list duplicate aliases for time zones as this would make the list ridiculously large.
(According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones there are already 77 zones just within the Asia region without including aliases)
