Description
As can be seen from JRA-26028, the current wording of this link (see attached screenshot) is extremely misleading...
It currently implies that Application Links are configured through this feature, whereas only Project/Entity Links (of PRE-CONFIGURED Application Links) are only configurable via this link.
As mentioned on the Managing Global Permissions page of our docco:
- Application Links are only configurable by users with the JIRA System Administrators global permission.
- Project Links can be configured by users with either the JIRA System Administrators or JIRA Administrators global permission.
Hence, users with the JIRA Administrators global permission (but not JIRA System Administrators) viewing the Project Summary page (in JIRA admin mode) may think they can configure an app link when they can't.
(Incidentally, thanks to APL-668 being fixed, the wording on the target page of this link is correct.)
How to fix this issue - very easy!
In the JIRA source code, change the following property in the file JiraWebActionSupport.properties from:
- admin.projects.configure.application.links=Configure Application Links
TO - admin.projects.configure.application.links=Configure Project Links
NB - Please leave admin.projects.application.links=Application Links 'as is' to indicate that configuring a 'project link' is part of configuring an 'app link' - i.e. I suspect a user will get confused if they see only 'Project Link' out of context (with no reference to Application Links).
