NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

It would be great to be able to also import/synchronize avatar from LDAP or Active Directory to JIRA. It is a cool feature to have, where the user want to use the same avatar from its AD directory, or when a company wants to have the avatar synchronized for both AD and JIRA.

This could be done with a simple script if they would add Avatar functions to the REST API.

            Consider:

ID-7859 Implement REST API to upload an avatar picture

            and

ACCESS-1292 As an org admin, I would like to upload a profile picture on behalf of a managed account

Atlassian: when can we expect to get an update on this issue?
            Using JIRA Software.7.1.9
The functionality is in high demand!

            We set up this workaround:

            1. Confluence has the UserProfile plugin to pull the avatars from ActiveDirectory.
            2. Confluence also has the AvatarServer plugin installed so that confluence is a 'Gravatar' server.
            3. Configured both Jira and Stash to get the user profiles from the confluence Gravatar service (allow Gravatars Jira setting configured to http://yourconfluenceinstance/rest/cas/1.0/avatar/server/).

So it was only one paid plugin and one free plugin in Confluence to get it going.

It would be a great feature indeed. Many companys use corporate pictures in AD since Outlook, Exchange, Lync and mobile devices that use ActiveSync to sync with Exchange can use Pictures from AD. http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2010/03/10/3409495.aspx got som initial information.
