Bring back role viewer in the new user management view

      Summary

There used to be a role viewer in the user management that allows users to check user roles and access directly from the user management.

While there is a permission checker in place, the permission checker do not provide a higher level view on the user access/roles, it's project level view so users can't be sure if the specific user they are checking have access or roles in other projects in the JIRA instance.

For the ease of configuring user roles and access, please also include or return the role viewer feature in the user management.

As a workaround, the page can be accessed using the URL https://domain.atlassian.net/secure/admin/roles/ViewUserProjectRoles.jspa?name=admin

Can we get this ticket changed to a bug not a suggestion? This was existing functionality that was removed with little communication that it was coming.

For those looking for a work around you can try navigating directly to the Jira page that displays the user/role/project mapping https://<instance>.atlassian.net/secure/admin/roles/ViewUserProjectRoles.jspa?name=<username> which thankfully still exists and works.

Username can still be found in the CSV file produced by the "Export users" function of the user admin.

Since Atlassian is rolling out changes to obscure usernames and replace them Atlassian ID guids this may not last. I tried using different query parameters in the url with user ids but no luck (e.g. ?id=<uid>, ?uuid=<uid>, ?guid=<uid>)

I would agree with all the comments.

We also used this functionality to limit project access for the user. That way users can access only projects that they works but not other Jira projects in the instance.

Having this back in place would be really helpful.

            -Thanks

It seems that Atlassian have recently made changes to Atlassian - Jira - Admin - User Management - User Details Screen which make it no longer possible to see which projects user has access to. Previously we were able to select view user project roles on the top right of user details page which would allow us to see which projects user has access to, but now this is no longer possible.

This is a major degradation in functionality and we would like to see a solution or at least a workaround to this issue ASAP. The nature of this issue also compromises security of our Jira instance since we cannot see what projects our users have access to. Navigating to each individual project is not a feasible workaround.

I agree that this feature should be reinstated. It is a critical function to assess what projects a user has access to in our system instance of Jira cloud.

As site Admin in Cloud  I consider not admisible to delete this "View Jira project roles" funcionality for all following reasons:

            • Site admins need to be able to view all the project roles of an user in each project in one view/screen.

who in Atlassian decided that sites admins have to go project by project checking this in that cases?? they are not site admins in cloud for sure..

For example when we have to create a new user , sometimes we are required to grant the same access and roles as another existing user .. so in these circunstances (In my site are very often)  it's not admissible that site admins will have to check project by project what role an existing user has to bring the sames roles to the new one.

Please, do the appropiate escalation of this issue   and reconsider to bring back this funcionality in the USER MANAGEMENT-Users area in Cloud Site Administration as soon as possible.

This is as I see it very basic and very critical. How are we supposed to be able to maintain the control over time regarding the permissions when we can not even see what projects a single user has access to?

How can this go hand in hand with Atlassians strategy to go enterprise in cloud?

It is fundamental to be able to see and be able to manage permissions in a feasible way.
