Git branch heads with non-ascii characters in commit message not parsed properly in some cases

Not-entirely reproducible, but in some cases if the branch head contains non-ascii characters the output of 'git branch' will not be parsed correctly and the branch won't be indexed at all.

Related to non utf-8 file.encoding, but at least one customer could reproduce it with utf-8 encoding set.
