Since Crowd 2.7, applications can use the key attribute on UserEntity in Crowd's REST APIs to identify a user across renames (including fetching a user by key using the key query param instead of the username query param).

We should update our developer documentation to reflect this once we are satisfied this part of our API is stable enough for clients to rely on.

With the 'key' attribute, will it be possible to change the username using the Crowd REST API?

Since it is possible to change the username through the Crowd GUI, why isn't it possible to do this with the Crowd REST API?
For an upcoming migration event this Crowd REST API feature would be very helpfull.
