Atlassian Status as of 27 April 2011

      Hi folks,
Thanks for your feedback and continued support. We wanted to give you an update on the status of this issue.

Over the near term, the direction we're taking with Crowd is to focus on scalability, reliability and performance. We understand the importance of adding additional connectivity to Crowd, however our efforts are will be used to improve scalability and performance. Because of this, significant improvements to our OpenID support are unlikely to occur in the next 12 months. We will continue to re-evaluate and update this issue when we have more information.

      Regards,
      Eugene Mak

The CrowdID server currently ignores requests for identifier selection (http://specs.openid.net/auth/2.0/identifier_select). This is also known as "directed identity".

CrowdID should populate the identifier field automatically if the remote user is logged in via SSO. If the user is not logged in, then CrowdID should present the user with a log in screen and then process the authentication request.

            [CWD-1310] Support OpenID 2.0 server-side identifier selection

            Hi Joseph,

            This is really good news!

Any idea when 2.6 will be available for download?

            Best Regards,

            Bruno

Along with the user-specific identifiers at 'openidserver/users/username', in 2.6 Crowd now has an OpenID endpoint of 'openidserver/op' that can be used to authenticate as the currently logged-in user.

            Vicky-
You made me feel bad so I added Crowd for NIF authentication
If you choose Crowd there's an additional dialog requesting your user
name and then the process works by forwarding to the URL with the user
            name embedded...

Larry this is deployed on alpha and checked into head.

I just voted because the software developers I support are basically telling me that they won't add our Crowd ID server to their apps until "it works like everything else". Sigh.

            Definitely +1 on this feature.

Yahoo! does it: you can just type http://www.yahoo.com as your identifier.
Google does it: you can just type (well, link from a button!) https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id

It would be nice if we could link directly to a CrowdID discovery URL with a button, and skip the step where users have to manually find and copy their CrowdID OpenID identity URL.

We ("France Chamber of Commerce") would like become an openid provider but we need this feature (openid selector / identifier select) because we'll be able to develop a widget much more user friendly than an URL (Google or Yahoo joined OpenID in version 2.0 because there was the "identifier select").

So, we hope that CrowdID will implement this feature in very soon, thanks a lot.

CrowdID definitely needs this killer feature of OpenID 2.0!

OpenID's adoption depends on user-friendly login screens such as http://code.google.com/p/openid-selector/. With such selectors, when a user clicks on the Google logo he is redirected to the Google login page that he knows and uses everyday.

Without directed identity, a CrowdID user has to enter once his login, then he is redirected to CrowdID login page where he has to enter his login again and his password.

CrowdID server should have an OP Identifier such as Google's one: https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id
