      groups are disappearing from users.

First noticed when I could not log in as admin, and no administrator option appeared.
restarted. Tried backup (hey it was a restart).
Now many users do not appear with groups. I'll see if I can upload a screenshot.

            [CONFSERVER-645] groups disappearing for users

I can confirm this. I started up, all was fine. Then I did a backup. Immediately following that I had lost my membership in confluence-administrators. This made it rather difficult to restore the backup.

happened after a failed backup (CONF -644)

Sequence as close as I remember it.

            • stop webapp (in TC manager)
            • tar up confluence dir
            • rm -r confluence dir
            • copy over confluence 1.0rc1
            • start webapp
            • login,
            • backup -> backup failed
            • do a few things,
            • log-out
            • do other stuff (not in confluence)
            • discover I can't log-in as admin
            • stop/start webapp
            • login ok.
            • decided to test backup -> backup failed
            • go to users, discover that groups disappeared,
            • take screenshot
            • stop webapp
            • try to start webapp ->out of memory message
            • restart tomcat server
            • problem has not appeared since server restart (I have not tried a backup, since).

Might be a low memory issue, or an issue with the back backup.

Does this happen just after you've restored data from a backup? Or does it just happen during the normal course of running the site?
