Description:
When undergoing a fresh install of Confluence 6.4 and above and attempting to configure a Oracle 12C DB via the installer, the installer will throw a DatabaseVerifyException when conducting DB connection checks stating that the DB user does not contain the correct privileges.
Yet, using the same DB user, with the same permissions on 6.3 works fine. No privilege error is thrown.
Upgrading does not encounter this as no DB connection checks occur during the upgrade path.
Tested on ojdbc7 & ojdbc8 drivers using RC1.
Issue is consistent on 6.4+ regardless of oracle DB engine, driver & instance.
Conclusion being that the DB connection tests do not check for the correct permissions.
Tests need to be more granular to ensure they are covering the required permissions needed to write and successfully configure a Oracle 12c DB for Confluence Server.
Steps to reproduce:
- Have a Oracle 12c R1 DB
- Grant a user dba access & connect, resource role
- Run 6.4 + installer
- Configure DB credentials and test connection
- Observe error
Expected Outcome:
DB connection checks check for correct permissions and allow user to successfully configured db and proceed to the next screen.
Actual Outcome:
DB checks are looking for the wrong privelges and therefore throw an error. See attached.
Workaround:
Either:
a) Conduct installation via upgrade path
Or
b) Log into the db, apply the permissions that the checks are looking for and then test connection to satisfy the installer.
