Yep. Didn't even want to use Jive but guess what? It supports this and it made them a whole lot of money. Outrageous that is still only a "medium" priority feature request. Huge corporations are looking to replace mailing lists, guys, you missed the boat.

Note this is 3 years old a request and is a feature of competitive platforms like Jive and others.  It can be implemented to also support the reply-add-comment to page one https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-5002 which is also broken since 2005.

sorry for the edit spam folks, damn editor in this thing keeps thinking I wanted underlines just because I used a + sign more than once.  It was even showing me in the comment box it was not underlined because I cleared it but then it put it back in upon submit.  Maybe another JIRA bug I should file...

This was highlighted immediately after adoption as a major shortcoming, as this has been outstanding for a year now it does not seem to be high on the list of priorities.

This is a big deal for big corporations where mailing lists are king. It's a show stopper. I can say with certainty that you're missing out on huge licenses.

Any update on this issue?

This is really huge for productivity, especially when users are traveling and using mobile devices, as Kelly mentioned. Would love to see some traction here, especially with all the interest and votes- a response from Atlassian would be great!

@ Florent Girard - Confluence will send you notifications on watched questions and topics. Where as this issue is about being able to answer a question just by replying to the notification email.

Question confluence is useless to me if it can't send a mail notification to users !

We are looking to license Confluence and Confluence Questions for about 4000 users; however, without the ability to answer by email is probably going to be a showstopper.

+1 for ability to answer/comment to questions via email.

The lack of this feature may be a show-stopper for us vis-a-vis considering Confluence Questions.

Purchasing Answers as add-on to existing confluence installation is 90% based on this feature being implemented.

We have this in our ServiceDesk support application, works great and we really need it in Answers (and Confluence)

I have voted for this feature as well. In an organization that constantly sends out and replies to emails. Having this feature would be much more efficient and increase productivity.

This feature (answering a question via email) would be a giant add to Questions for us. We're a multi-national company with locations around the world with a good number of employees in five timezones. We have a high % of employees following the topics they either have an interest in, are SME's for, or are responsible for, and being able to reply to a question via email would increase the % of questions that are answered and the speed they are answered, because often employees have smart devices with them for monitoring and replying to emails but they aren't in the office or VPN'd in to the internal network, where Confluence Questions runs.
