CalDAV support is a must for it to properly interoperate with the largest number of clients. It's unclear from the documentation if this is supported or if subscriptions in iCal/Outlook/Thunderbird currently just download/upload .ics files.

Atlassian Status as of April 24, 2018

      Hi all,

We're excited to announce that CalDAV is now supported in the latest version of Team Calendars! Check out the 6.0 release notes for more information.

            [CONFSERVER-51340] CalDAV support

            Hi chris.swinney1,

Thanks for the valuable feedback. As you've probably guessed, this is very much out of scope for our implementation of CalDAV. However, we'll certainly bear it in mind for future improvements.

This is good new, however, I think more work needs to be made of the Calendaring application to make it truly functional. I have posted this elsewhere but a lot of posts go seemingly unread, so even though this is specifically about CalDav support (and yay for that), I though posting her might get some more traction.

For example, to be able to assign and track team members holidays, you need to know:

            • How many days have been assign to individuals?,
            • How many days have been taken?,
            • Do weekends count?
            • How many day have you as an individual got leave in a holiday year?,
            • When does this holiday year start/stop?,
            • Can you carry over holiday from one year to another, and if so how mach?
            • Some workflow required (potentially) to authorise holiday requests).

Most of this is pretty simple stuff, but of course GUI enhancements are required. We looked at Confluence originally for Calendaring, and whilst this is generally good, and CalDav will make this better, there are additional items that must be included to make this really work for teams.

            Hi all,

I'm pleased to let you know that we've completed our technical investigation and have decided to add CalDAV to our roadmap!

We plan to begin development on this in the first half of 2018. However, as I'm sure you can appreciate, implementing CalDAV for Team Calendars will be a sizable undertaking. There will be a number of edge cases to work around and we want to ensure that we deliver a rock solid experience. Thank you for your patience as we work on this.

I'll update you again once we begin development.

I am not sure Atlassian itself is responsible for this plugin. I sure hope not.

I have meanwhile discontinued our usage as I now consider this a scam.

Someone else should see this functionality gap and step in with an own calendar implementation. Since I moved our calendar to a cloud based backend I suppose this is more reasonable anyway that having you wiki host your calendar. Which would require really only a calendar that is in-wiki and a view to a remote caldav resource.

            Just my 2 cents...

This has one of the highest votes for a Confluence server issue however the latest Atlassian status update is from November 2013!

I think Atlassian should give more attention to issues with high votes so that we know what can be expected.

This is of vital importance to us. We operate teams spanning both O365 and Google worlds, and the inbuilt shared calendar do not synchronise without other stuff breaking. Hence the need for a third separate central calendar that enables both Outlook and Google Calendar users to link toward AND be able to update from their own scheduling application.

I think about building a workaround/addon for 2way sync feature.

A possible solution is merging ics subscriptions of the calendars. Another one is having two calendars om both ends (one for write, another for read). Then updating the read calendars from the write ones.

Do you think this proposal has potential or not?

            Hi CalDAV support

I have new requirement regarding to the number of invitation votes. Can we enhance with the features of voting counts. Example, I have training room 1 which limited to 5 seats. I invited a team more than 15 members. The first five will be able to accept automatically showed the calendar schedule on their personal outlook or team calendars those did not participate or late will be automatically declined or closed notifications.

Is that possible? thank you in advance.

We're finding that calendars are very limited without this feature as well. One way sync still leads to a lot of duplication (having to enter calendar data into multiple places). Two way sync would drastically increase the productivity this plugin provides.

            Yes please.

This could leverage the external database used to synchronize these calendars. Essentially, the calendar in outlook and confluence would do their read/writes via that database. Every Confluence system already leverages an external database (for production) I would recommend utilizing that as an avenue to sync calendars, then not only can you sync with outlook, but then it is just a matter of utilizing an API to sync with any calendar.

            Anyway, just thinking out loud.

NOT having two-way integration with Exchange/Outlook has been a drag on my team's uptake and use of Team Calendars. There was a lot of excitement about it when we first installed it, but so much of our scheduling is already done in Outlook that to have to duplicate any of it in Confluence is effectively a non-starter for people.

As we are using Atlassian Team Calendar for noting the availability of team members we are effectively forced to make double entries in Outlook/Exchange. Apart from being able to display MS Exchange calendars we would also like to be able to filter and classify on the status of the event.

Specifically we need to display only events with the status "Out of Office" as Travel in Team Calendar.

Just in case it's helpful, there are workarounds to enable a simple one-way sync (Outlook to TeamCal or TeamCal to Outlook). Check out https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/53142/answers/39246943 if this is something you can use while waiting for the CalDAV feature.

I cannot believe this hasn't been implemented for 5 years. This is the absolute baseline necessary for a calendar addon to be productive. If this were a legacy feature of Confluence, I would grumble and keep editing calendar items in Google Calendar as a workaround. As a paid addon, I find the cost extremely difficult to justify.

as all here - would be a massive advantage for confluence. Currently had to move to ms hosted exchange server for a planning solution. Its essential for good collaboration solution. Thanks for pushing this feature.

Update 25.05.2016: Today I finally finished a solution for my customer. Sorrily I had to switch to an hosted MS Exchange system and no Confluence/Teamcalendar as originally planed. A few nice side effects of exchange made my setup awesome for production planning - but with outlook. ;-(

I just came here looking up documentation while trying to fix missing write access to our new Calender. I assumed it was some bug on my side and it should be working. And now I realize it is a 5 year old missing feature? That is astonishing.
May I ask, why is this missing feature not present yet? I have to admit, if I would have known this doesn't work, I would have never bought the plugin in the fast place... Wait... I just answered my question

For us, basic requirements are (in order of priority):

            • Use an Enterprise calendaring solution to manage (create / update / delete) calendar event of the teams, obvious example Outlook!
            • Expose the teams calendars into Confluence in read-only mode
            • Allow Confluence users to request a synchronization
            • Enable Confluence admins to manage the automatic synchronization polling intervals
            • Enable Confluence admins to manage who can have access to the teams calendars using either confluence internal directories or LDAP ones

Of course there could more requirement but this would be a nice start for us.

Oddly enough Fastmail... we were looking at them for mail hosting and it turns out their calendar solution has full CalDAV and groups/sharing built-in. We haven't even migrated our mail yet, but our calendars are all loaded up and syncing with all of our other accounts. I only opened the account about 14h ago... So far no complaints and our team is much more enthusiastic about it.

We recenly stumbled upon a better solution so we will be cancelling the Calendars subscription shortly.

            frannie, thanks for the feedback.

This is one of our challenges with having an open feature request tracker with all our customers being able to see and collaborate on suggestions. We've got tens of thousands of customers with millions of users. In Confluence alone, we've got over 6,000 feature requests (and growing daily!). We'd love to implement as much as we can for everyone but in reality that isn't going to happen. We will always have lots feature suggestions open, the alternative is we hide all feature requests from other customers which isn't something we want to do. Where possible we will close feature requests which we have no intention on doing.

Can I say that we do always look at implementing highly requested issues. If you go look at historical release notes we're always referencing all the customer issues we're resolving and time and time again we're solving "older" highly-requested issues balancing that with the many other inputs into our roadmap.

There are, situations like this, where issues are open for longer periods of time and there might be a few reasons for this:
            1. We leave the issue open as it's something we see as valuable and would like to do in the future.
            2. They're open for a lengthy period of time because generally they are quite costly to implement or have some significant technical challenges. CalDav in particular comes with some significant support, third-party licensing and maintenance implications. We're still leaving this open because we'd ideally find a solution to get over this hurdle.

This is something we'd love to look into doing, we spend some time in our roadmap in the past looking at possible solutions and didn't find anything feasible at the time. I'd suspect that towards later this year we'd conduct another investigation again and see how things may have progressed. We will keep this feature suggestion open for as long as we think we could still do it, I'm sorry and I understand this may create some frustration - but we are trying to be as open as possible.

kevin.morris regarding the old calendar plugin and charging for the new one, I've tried to articulate our thinking here. I hope this helps shed some light if you hadn't seen that before, apologies if you have.

They're gearing up for an IPO is why they're making everything modular and charging for any feature improvements. It won't get any better after they go public. But their wiki system and user-interface is still the best on the market for ease of use and speed now so it's like you're damned if you do or your damned if you don't. If you're running a small tech-savvy team there are more feature rich FOSS solutions out there (FOSWIKI, Xwiki, etc.), but it's really not worth the pain if you're fellow employees don't know Wiki-Markup language or much about tech. (or if you don't know how to host).
But yes, what you're saying is true. Calendars used to be included with Confluence in 2011 and they split it out so they could monetize.

I've been finding that every single time I look for functionality in Confluence or Jira (things that are built into most other products), there's a two year old thread with Atlassian saying they are working on it, or they are not going to implement.

How can you ignore items like this when they are offered readily in all of your competitor products?

We are looking for a calendar solution to keep inside of our Confluence instance but that we can access from a mobile device. Since you don't offer a Confluence app, we would want to use our google calendar and link to Confluence, but you're missing the dynamic sync for items that we add from Confluence. We also would like the //shortcut for dates to auto add to a calendar from inside a Confluence page.

What's the point of team calendars - an add on no less - that is 5+ years behind the times?

But I believe the built-in calendar app in Windows 10 has native CalDAV support? It certainly has native iCloud support, and that does calendaring via CalDAV.

Aside the fact that Atlassian is now '...doing some investigation...' since November, 19th 2013 - which after two years only can mean they abandoned it, nor? the survey may need a small update. Instead of having option field for the given questions, checkboxes would be more senseful. At least if there is interest in useful results.

I think I said it once or twice, but still this is one of the features that really need the improvements, especially in directions to Exchange environments... and just setting an issue to resolved, as with TEAMCAL-655 isn't a solution. There are users, like me, looking into it and feeling a bit 'uncomfortable' so to say when they find out that resolved should be: WILL NOT FIX as a right answer.

I subscribed to Team Calendar from MS Outlook following the steps provided from Atlassian support https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/TEAMCAL/Subscribe+to+Team+Calendars+from+Microsoft+Outlook

The problem for us is that the Team Calendar, imported from Confluence into MS Outlook, is Read-Only. (Note: we use hosted MS Exchange). Also, when I make a change into Confluence Team Calendar, the MS Outlook calendar does not automatically update. At the very least, we need to be able to edit/schedule items in the MS Outlook calendar and have that automatically update the Confluence Team Calendar so that information is only having to be entered once. (Even if that means that we have to click a button to cause the synch for each instance just as long as we are not having to go through the import process with each change as long as it's not more than one step). As others have mentioned, the ideal feature is a two-way synchronization.

Atlassian development seems a bit ADD to me. It seems they get all excited about a new feature and they work on it till it is usable and then they get excited about something new and the old stuff just gets permanently put on the back burner. I think that they have too many irons in the fire as evidenced by the huge number of votes on this ticket and the fact that it was created three years ago.

            Our needs are pretty simple:

            • Our on-site support need to update their calendars on the road quickly.
            • Our Confluence is behind a firewall, only accessible through VPN.
            • If Team Calendars access and use on mobile is as simple and as fast as mobile calendar client access and use, calendar sync would be unnecessary
            • However, if more than 1 additional step is required (that 1 step is connecting to VPN and entering password), on-site support will not use Team Calendars and the team availability calendar will not be up-to-date / reliable

Not having used Team Calendars on mobile, I can't say whether usability is fast and easy enough that two-way calendar sync is not needed. Has anyone else used Team Calendars via mobile?

If Team Calendars access and use on mobile is as simple and as fast as mobile calendar client access and use, calendar sync would be unnecessary However, if more than 1 additional step is required (that 1 step is connecting to VPN and entering password), on-site support will not use Team Calendars and the team availability calendar will not be up-to-date / reliable Not having used Team Calendars on mobile, I can't say whether usability is fast and easy enough that two-way calendar sync is not needed. Has anyone else used Team Calendars via mobile?

Maybe have multiple modules in the plugin? One for CalDav and another that uses EWS to connect to Exchange to provide round trips, and other modules to integrate with other non CalDav systems that have open APIs for round-tripping.
