Table Sort not working Alphabetically with broken table markup

NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

I have created a table with a header row. There seems to be a bug when inserting new records and saving the alphabetical sort no longer works. I have removed all macros from the column to see if that was part of the issue, and, the bug still persists.

            Hi,

We see this issue in 7.13.2. We have a table that does not sort properly and the Storage Format contains </tbody> in the middle of the table.

Please let me know if you need any further details. Thank you!

            Hi Mallory

It's not idea but the best solution would be to use something like chrome to manually edit the table and remove the offending markup before saving the page.

Obviously this a work around and we need to address this issue better with an actual fix.

Alright, so you are right. For some reason, in the middle of the table it's adding a </tbody> before the end of the actual table, causing it to think there are two tables instead of one. There are quite a few of records below this break so it's not feasible to re-enter all of them.

How can i get rid of this oddity in the HTML code?

            Hi Mallory

The easiest way to check would be to compare the markup in the browser for a table that you know sorts correctly against one that you know doesn't.

When checking the markup you'd need to be looking for inconsistencies in the layout, spurious <span> tags, <div> tags or in the case of tables <thead>, <tbody> or <tfoot> tags that aren't where they're supposed to be.

Obviously this does require that you have a familiarity with HTML. If you don't but can supply the code for the two tables (and attach it here) we can check it over for you.

            Regards

Do you know how I can check this to resolve?

            Hi Mallory

Thanks for the update on this. What you are seeing is that when you click the header row to sort the fields alphabetically that some of the time fields are not arranging themselves in alphabetical order correctly?

My suspicion at this stage is that there may be some spurious markup left from a copy paste operation that may be causing this to happen.

            Regards

It's hard for me to give you the true steps because it is a group sourced page, but, I can tell you how I did it when adding a new record:

            (1) Created the table with a header row so that the sorting would work
            (2) Inserted a second row using the tab button and created my first term (Also tried by inserting a new row through the insert row button)
            (3) Continued this process n times
            (4) After awhile noticed that some of the words were alphabetically correct and others were starting over.

When I add them all myself, there doesn't seem to be a problem & everything alphabetizes correctly. Is there something perhaps cached incorrectly?
