Unable to remove email notification for Team Users

I created a new space with a team in confluence on demand.
They now get an email every single time I change the space.
They have had around 100 today and I've not way to unsubscribe them from alerts. I cant see any option to stop email all together as we dont really want this and they are happy to just log in to jira/confluence.
If I go watchers, then manage watchers I still cant remove them, even though I created the page and I'm an admin user, we get the message "These people are notified when any content in the space is changed. You cannot modify this list."

This is compounded by an apparent bug in the import from word function in ondemand, my document was quite large with many pictures, and I got an atlassian is down for maintenance message during upload but it seemed to create it.
However, now, the members of my team are getting 100's of emails saying it is being updated every 5 minutes, I've no way to stop this....due to the issue above.

I have told them to uncheck all check boxes here https://[mydomain]/wiki/users/viewmyemailsettings.action but they still get emails....and its filling up their inboxes.
