Multimedia Macro should provide HTML 5 audio and video controls

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Multimedia Macro should have a play/stop button on the interface.

I can think like a "fly" button, that give us an option to play/stop, fast forward, rewind

We are also facing this issue on Confluence 5.8 but I read in the 5.10 release notes that this should be fixed - we are planning to update soon.

is it not fixed? Or do I get the release notes wrong??

I wish there was an HTML5 Video Gallery + HTML5 Video Player that integrated into the product.
We are looking for a way to better manage our videos in Confluence, we would like a "YouTube" look and feel.
Some 3rd-party products we are reviewing are Panopto, KZO, Brightcove and TechSmith Relay.

It is 2016 and I still can't figure out how to do video Youtube-style on plain Confluence. So attached is a user macro that you could try which I wrote back in 2015. Name it html5video, instructions for use are in the text. Basically you attach a video to a page and reference it using the macro with parameters of your liking. Works inline on a page and even displays a download link if desired. Donated to public domain.

I think it would be a nice thing to fix this. We're finding the Multimedia Macro quite useless otherwise. We are in 2015 and all browsers supported by Confluence do support HTML5. It should be a trivial change in the Macro, I'd guess...

Our solution at the moment is to write HTML with the HTML macro, but it is not something that we can allow any users to do..

Our company President just created his first blog on Confluence - and it included a short video which is displayed by the standard file Macro. If you click on it, it says it can't be previewed and must be downloaded. I was going to recommend he use the multimedia macro instead, but then I tried it and realized:

            • Google Chrome will complain that QuickTime is out of date - even if you install the latest QuickTime - since apparently the plugin uses an older API which is deprecated. You can play the video but only if you allow it to "Play this time" and ignore the warning.
            • There are no controls for the video.

Moving to HTML 5 should solve both problems.

For added usability, when someone uploads a video (once we have HTML 5) users shouldn't have to then select a different macro to embed the video - it should do this by default. In other words, if someone is editing a page and chooses "Insert Files and Images" and the file is a multimedia file then it should automatically embed that file so it will be playable in the browser (auto-play off by default).

That's embarrassing. Atlassian really does not have a working solution to embed a video into a wiki page? I barely can imagine!

Without the HTML5 controls we're facing really annoying issue with getting audio files to play correctly on different machines because everyone has some different set of plugins installed. Having the multimedia macro get rendered as an HTML5 <audio> or <video> element would make things much nicer for us.

As it stands, I've had to enable the HTML macro so that we can put in our own HTML5 tags.
