IE10 and IE11 could only print Confluence into one page, if using the Documentation Theme

This is a regression of this bug. The issue is fixed in Confluence 4.3.7 however the problem resurfaced in Confluence 5.0.2, in the Documentation Theme.

      Summary of The Bug

Internet explorer browser can't print Confluence page in more than one page. This result to Confluence page being cut in a half when IE wants to print it. The rest of the page is there, however user would need to reduce the zoom so that it could contain the whole page

Printing another site page on IE result to multiple page being able to be printed

NB: This bug exists only in the Documentation Theme.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Create a space and set it to use the Documentation Theme
      2. Create a page that is long enough that it would need to be printed on more than one page (tip: use the Lorem Ipsum macro)
      3. Click the "Print Preview" tool on your IE
      4. You would see that the page is not complete
      5. Reduce the zoom level to see the rest of the page

      Workaround

Use the Global Look and Feel rather than the Documentation Theme.

[CONFSERVER-28544] IE10 and IE11 could only print Confluence into one page, if using the Documentation Theme

Hi steve.gerstner@bridging-it.de, I went to grab the diff in response to your comment and that actually lead me to the fix, so - thanks! If you're interested in the technical detail, we were previously using JQuery's browser.msie property to determine if the browser is IE, but this has been deprecated. I've updated it to now use TinyMCE's browser checking functions, and the fix is currently in Technical Review, so it will be scheduled in an upcoming release.
Thanks everyone for your patience, and for being our allies in tracking down a fix

^^ The problem with Chrome is it doesn't work nicely for Confluence in other areas --> You cannot use the Edit in Office feature to open Excel, Word files with Chrome. You have to use IE.

Hello everybody: my suggested workaround: Use Google Chrome , with this browser the problem does obviously not appear anymore.

Can you post a diff of the changes from CONF-23962? That should help finding a workaround.

I've noticed that (at least in version 5.7 and IE10) it can only be reproduced if you are using the Documentation Theme.

Come on, Atlassian, do you have any news on this?
We know there are better browsers than IE11, but still, printing a Confluence page should be straightforward from IE11.

We just upgraded from Conf 3.1 to Conf 5.6.3 and from IE 8 to IE 11. Printing only page 1 of 1 when there are really multiple pages was present in old versions, but we expected this to be fixed in the newest Confluence and browser. Sadly it is not. In fact, it is worse now because Print Preview is no longer a workaround. Problem seems to be w/ use of Documentation theme. Please provide a fix.

            Dear Atlassian Team,
is there any update about this bug, which is marked as major above? I still hesitate to update our confluence version from 4 to 5, because this bug is not fixed yet, and I would have to do another update once it is fixed (double costs...). But we absolutely need to update, because with IE11 one cannot type the . (dots) in version 4.
I am in a vicious circle. Thanks for your help,
            Henning

I have the same problem IE11 only prints one page. Are so few people printing confluence pages? Because only few people are reporting this... Please Atlassian how can this bug be not even assigned to any developer since one year. Please fix quickly. Thanks.

We get this issue for version 4.2.13 and 4.3.2 using both IE8 and IE9.

I've just upgraded all our wikis to 5.4 in a test environment and the issue still exists on both ie versions.

Our wiki users are not happy about this issue. They've been using the workaround of exporting to pdf and printing, but this really isn't good enough. This is common functionality that should just work.

I'm surprised this is still outstanding.

            Regards
            Linden

Thats strange. With my IE9 (9.0.8112.16421) i can only print the first page of every entry on confluence.atlassian.com or on our own confluence with versoin 5.1.5.
So the problem affects this version too!

            Hi Loretta

Thanks for the update. I'm unable to reproduce this in either IE8 or IE9 but I am able to reproduce this with IE10 so it looks like this is still a problem, albeit in a slightly different form.

I went to confluence.atlassian.com in IE10, right-clicked and selected Print Preview. Only first page displays. Same thing when I try to print it. Starts with 'Atlassian Documentation' at the tops and ends with 'Confluence Team Calendars'. Hope this helps you help me. Thanks. We are still on 5.1.3.

            Hi lorettarinaldi

I've just been looking at this issue on confluence.atlassian.com and wanted to verify that the problems that you have been experiencing in 5.1.3 are still present in the latest version of Confluence.

When using print preview on confluence.atlassian.com does the page look complete to you if not what are you expecting to see that is missing?
