When you import a Word Document containing a bullet point with letters list, the list will be imported with numbers instead of characters:

Me too. This is a very basic standard and Atlassian should consider to keep up level with at least basics.

It's a royal pain importing our runbooks.  I spend an hour just reformating.  This was marked as won't fix in 2013 because Confluence doesn't support nested lists.  But it does support in now.  I can make it organized exactly like Word, but it just consumes an enormous amount of time.

            Can this please be fixed?

This makes Confluence useless for importing and therefore storing test plans... Isn't this a major use case for Confluence?

I would often like to use "A., B., ..." type lists (e.g., when I present alternatives) instead of "1., 2., ..." type lists (which I prefer when giving a sequence of instructions). It is really a problem that this feature is missing.

(Relevance: My guess is that this is the feature that you don't want to realize, and if you would, the feature asked by Adhip could then be easily realized. I think that my problem is more common, though Adhip's problem has the additional problem that any written references like "item A.7" must then be spotted (and corrected to "1.g").)

            Hi Matt,

I just happened to read your comment after one of my colleague asked me about the updates on this issue. We are very disappointed to read your comments. The Word documents that our Business Analysts get from our Clients are 2-300 pages long. The number format is screwed when we import it to Confluence. Can you provide us alternate route to fix this without changing the format on each of the pages one by one?

            Thanks
            Adhip

The current behaviour is working as expected, so this is not a bug.

We don't currently have any plans to support different number formats for lists, and certainly not to the level of MS Word. So I've closed this issue as "Won't Fix".

            Adhip, thanks for reporting this.

Unfortunately, Confluence doesn't support different numbering schemes for lists in pages. Only lists numbered with standard numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) are supported in Confluence pages, so this is the only possible conversion from Word into Confluence. Lists using other number formats (a, b, c/A, B, C/i, ii, iii, etc.) will be converted to a standard number format when you import Word documents.

Confluence is much simpler than Word with regard to text formatting, and we (intentionally) only offer a small subset of Word's formatting options.

            Hi,

Can someone please change the priority of this? I just want this issue to be fixed as it impacts majority of our Clients. I am ready to talk to anyone if needed.

            Thanks
            Adhip
