NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

This comes from a post on Answers.Atlassian.com which I believe would be a valid feature.

Is there a way to disable notifications in a space?

The use case would be that a company has multiple spaces but has a specific space which contains sensitive information that they would not like to have traveling over the internet via email. However, they would still like to be able to have this ability available for spaces which do not contain sensitive information. So the idea would be say an option in the space admin screens (say a check box) that when checked stops all emails related to that space from being created.

      workaround in the meantime
Add a filter at the mail server level which blocks emails which contain links to the space in question. For example 'http://localhost:8090/display/TEST' so they are still created by Confluence but never actually get sent.

I have added a new request to enable something for Confluence Cloud.

            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-51896

We are being forced by our security teams to drop Confluence if this is not resolved.

I could not believe you could not do this. Totally insecure and way to easy to send unintended information to the wrong person.   The mail filter work around is not practical for us as we do not manage the mail server.

This will ultimately cause companies to move away from Confluence for a more secure platform. I'm concerned about it.

Agreed with everyone above. I love Confluence but have a few key issues with it that prevent us from expanding how we use it. Being able to disable notifications per space would prevent the following scenarios:

            1. Distracting team members with notifications for all pages when only some pages are particularly useful for them.
            2. Too many notifications results in 'notification fatigue', causing team members to miss actually pertinent information.
            3. Frequently emailing potentially sensitive information.

Additionally, we'd love to use Confluence as a shared private wiki with clients, but we've received too many complaints about the number of notifications (regardless of how many times we say they can 'unwatch' the space).

I agree, this is absolutely needed. A simple checkbox to disable emails is all it takes.

There is sensitive information on some pages and to remove all watchers, make the change and then ask the users to watch the page again is not ideal - completely counter intuitive.

To believe that Confluence is only used as an open (non-private) alternative to Wiki is nonsense from Atlassian's perspective. We ask Atlassian to reconsider this request.

We also totally need this. In some cases we make some bulk changes to attachments in pages via Attachment Properties and this generates tens if not hundreds of emails while we complete the reorganisation. Users first complain and then unwatch the space, which completely defeats the purpose of notifications to start with. A simple checkbox should do, as Hans-Hermann mentions. Hardly any more "complication" of the product.

            Hi,

Does anyone know of a current plugin (supporting more recent versions of Confluence) which provides this feature?

There's a marketplace plugin that implements this feature. However, it does not support Confluence beyond 4.1.10.

This is absolutely a great idea; we need this as well. Does anyone know of a plugin to implement this feature?
