Replace absolute url with tiny url in mail notification of page edit and comment

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently, a page title is represented with an absolute url in mail notification for page edit and comment. For example: http://localhost:8099/display/TEST/new+again

So, when the page is moved to another space, the url/path has changed for example to http://localhost:8099/display/ds/new+again. When a user click on the page title link in the mail notification, he/she will be redirected to the old url and will be getting Page Not Found.

To improve this, we should make use of tiny url instead, like the one we used in shared page and mention mail notification. Here is the example:

[CONFSERVER-27845] Replace absolute url with tiny url in mail notification of page edit and comment

Unbelievable that Atlassian recognises that an URL with the Space and Page name hardcoded is bad practice, and promotes using their "Tiny URL" for remote links. But... they do not use it themselfs and refuse to recognise it as a Bug. How far can you be from real users ?

Addition to another question to this particular topic:

            Heya Chris,

What URL will be called when you click on the title new again or the user's URL admin? Can you please check these links of your screenshot too? I guess these are still absolute URL's - does a user even got a unique URL?

Clicking on 'new again', I'll be redirected to: http://localhost:8099/display/TEST/new+again which is an absolute path where Page Not Found issue will be encountered as I have moved the page to a different space and the url now is http://localhost:8099/display/ds/new+again as per my example in the improvement request.

            Cheers
            Christopher
