Problem Description
When you uploaded excel file to Confluence, and use Viewxls macro, the Date format will be reverted to US even though the format cell is already in other locale. This will only replicated when the Windows locale is the same with the one in Excel.

      Steps to replicate

      1. Change Windows Locale to Other language such as German
      2. Create an Office Excel file and enter date “31.12.2012” in cell A1.
      3. Check the locale and you will see that the Language is already in German.
      4. Save the file.
      5. Upload the file to Confluence
      6. Use Viewxls to view the file
      7. You will see that the date will be reverted to US format

For serious use here in Europe, this is a severe issue. Our business users are quite confused.

            6.5.2 is affected, too.

Not only the office excel macro is affected, but the view file functionallity, too. E.g., if I insert a link to an excel file, and then click on it to view the file

            Please Fix.

In Version 5.9.11 we have this problem only with xlsx-files. Old excel files with ending "xls" are correctly shown.

I can reproduce this problem in Confluence 5.7.6 and 5.9.9

            1. Create an Excel file
            2. In the first cell write 5000
            3. Format this cell as currency
            4. Excel displays "5.000 €" as my german region
            5. Create page in Confluence and insert the file
            6. Insert an Excel View macro
            7. Save and see "5,000 €" instead of "5.000 €" in both views

Noticed same issue today on Confluence 5.2.3

Very confusing for users when they expect the date format to be DD/MM/YYYY and the view macro has converted it to MM/DD/YYYY.

Same problem. Number Format has problems as well. (german decimal mark "." get's converted into ",")

I also have this problem and but there needs to be some additional conditions to reproduce.

What format you use for the cell in excel impacts the result in Confluence.

If I choose the format "2013-01-31" (yyyy-MM-dd) for the cells in Excel, then they will have almost the right format in Confluence. They will show as "2013/01/31" (yyyy/MM/dd).

If I however choose the date format with the asterix "*2013-01-31" (*yyyy-MM-dd) then the result in confluence will be as the description in this issue. The US default will be used (01/31/2013).

There seems to be 2 different issues with the date format for confluence in regards to the viewfile macro.

            1. The field delimiters are ignored. Cell formatted in Excel as "yyyy-MM-dd" will show in Confluence as "yyyy/MM/dd".
            2. Confluence doesn't handle Excel date formats with asterix . Cell formatted in Excel as "*yyyy-MM-dd" will show in Confluence as "MM/dd/yyyy".
