Confluence 4.3 shipped with the ability to create inline tasks on a page.

This issue is to track the demand for that feature to be available in comments - so you can create tasks in a comment.

@Lasse Bencke: Because Atlassian has outgrown itself, and does only the bare minimum of what is required to compliment "average" customers, and spends more of it's time now supporting it's largest customers, and has shown little effort to communicate with, or address customers that are not multi-million dollar contracts.

It's infuriating, but they know that they still have one of the top 3 products in market, for now. But I am getting a LOT of ads for good competitors. So, I think it is in their best interest to start showing some of their smaller customers some love soon.

            I'm adding my +1 regardless

It would be beneficial to be able to create in-line tasks in comments. An even better alternative would a contextual comment with a task a la Bitbucket (see "Introducing Bitbucket Pull Request Tasks").

I would like this too - editing a page just to create a task is overkill, especially when the task is "[] @lazyuser Please can you make this page a bit better than it is currently //now"

We just got confluence - I can't understand why there isn't a streamlined way to enter action items. I would settle for the ability to put them in comments. I would rather have a form like submission that you can add to a page. Then you can just go to that page - type the action item, click submit.

+1 from me too - My team manages comments on a couple hundred documents from several hundred users and it's very easy to miss one. The ability to add tasks would allow us to essentially assign comments to ourselves to make sure no two moderators are working the same comment at the same time.

+1 for me, I'm looking to setup a space to help me work with my accountant who is not really in the digital age so making it as simple as possible to create a Task such as in the comments would be really helpful, thanks.

Gathering interest.. count in my vote!

Personally, I would like to remain dependent on the successful duo Jira & Confluence. This would help increase productivity!

Is it really ok, that this is still "gathering interest"? How is it ok that a feature which worked in past versions isn't supported anymore?

For mobile savviness I've abandoned the use of tasks in Confluence and moved to Salesforce1. My tasks don't relate to edits in any Conflluence page.

Tasks are transient for me otherwise I'd use a JIRA task and collaborate there (but for page content maintenance it seems overkill). To go through all the hoops to maintaining a page for tasks that can't be edited from a mobile application isn't worth the trouble.

Seems now that Comments can be used as stand-in Tasks, and Adrian - ugly or not - you can at mention someone there then strike through or delete the Comment when you are ready. Ugly is beautiful to some is the problem.

I find the personal tasks and managing tasks option which was discontinued in CONF 5.5 to be a big loss. See here:

I'm a researcher and don't work in the IT industry and therefore I depend on reminding myself (or others) to update pages. Having the task in the comment section or on the page is not of much use, is ugly and/or should disappear once completed.

I'm sure this will be used a lot more as CONFLUENCE moves out of the IT industry.

I see it that beyond the Desktop, Mobile Confluence presents the best opportunity to reap benefits from in-line tasks in Comments. I'd wager that Confluence on mobile uptake will gain some serious momentum when this feature goes in. +1

We'd love to have the ability to add tasks in comments. We minute decisions in some meetings as comments and from time to time these also include tasks. The ability to add them in the comment would keep everything nice and simple. Comments are also significantly lighter weight than editing a page to add a task.

It would be nice to have a quick mechanism for ad-hoc task items. Creating tasks right from the meeting notes is great, but there is no mechanism to assign tasks that pop up day to day. Having a dedicated page that you edit to add a task to would seem to work, but the workflow is a bit clunky and there are too many steps.

For an example, if I remember I want my co-worker to pick up milk, I would either email them (which I am trying to avoid), or more likely I use Podio where I can create a quick task and assign it to them, and they get a notification. I'd like to replace Podio with Confluence, but it is missing this functionality.

Ideally there would be a quick task app/page that you can add to quickly, but I think adding to comments would get around that for now.

We often have long confluence pages and use the InPlace Editor from Stilsoft to edit certain sections of a page, instead of editing entire pages.
However, the assign tasks icon is not visible when using the InPlace Editor because (email from the InPlace Editor developers)
"The InPlace Editor plugin uses the Confluence editor in the Comment mode. Currently, Confluence doesn't let you add tasks in comments, therefore the plugin can't handle them either."

I therefore think adding this feature is very important, as otherwise you must edit an entire page to assign tasks.
I hope that feature can be implemented soon.

You can just @mention the user, and then they can add the task to their list. But then you can't see it, as it's only in their task list.
