      Atlassian Status as of 04/11/2014

      Hi everyone,

This has now been fixed in Confluence OnDemand and will also be available in our upcoming release of Confluence 5.5. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm with this issue. As always, feedback welcome.

      Thanks,
      Natasha

As a Confluence user, it would be interesting to have the ability to see the the tasks you have assigned to other users.
It would be then helpful to have a "nudge" feature or some way to request an update to the task

If you are going to comment on this issue, we'd love to hear about your use cases so we can better understand how we can make this better

[CONFSERVER-26615] Ability to see other users tasks

This has now been fixed in Confluence OnDemand and will soon be available in our upcoming release of Confluence 5.5.

We've added the "Task report" macro which enables you to aggregate tasks in different ways e.g. tasks assigned to your team, tasks within a project, etc.

Thanks for your patience and feedback on this issue.

That looks like a good option, but I have to convince my boss to give me the money to purchase it. Not exactly the cheap option especially for something that should already be built in to confluence.

Ryan - Have you looked at Ad Hoc Workflows? We use it only for tasks for this very reason. Eventually when Atlassian gets their tasking up to speed we will probably abandon it since we don't use the workflow portion.

I will attempt your suggestion, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the whole action items in the meeting notes thing. Now instead of just recording meeting notes and assigning actions items, I have to maintain a separate page for those same action items. I get your point, but sometimes action items from meeting are as simple as "@Tyler send SRS to Bob". Having to put that in another list kind of defeats the purpose of efficiency using confluence.

Try this Ryan, have a page that lists deliverables, due dates, owner and status, and have the owners update the status periodically. Make use of the colored status. It will help keep the owners accountable, seeing green/red status next to their name.

Understood Jackson... but when you have a team that's not willing to be accountable, and people that are unwilling to use the tools, then having the tools help you out is a major plus. I have a meeting to go through everyweek where the first thing we do is go through outstanding action items. Guess how I have to go get those action items... Go through the last several weeks of meeting notes. Especially, because some actions items won't be done in just a week, it may be a month or more before they can get addressed.

I know you're going to say get better people, but unfortunately, I'm not in the position to do that. So I have to work with what I have. I've been using confluence for months now and I love many of it's features, but this is a big one that should be a no brainer to be needed. One of the major reasons to pick confluence was to help with organization and structure for our team, but holding people accountable that are in a different country is not the easiest thing to do.

There's a lot more value to Confluence than just task tracking, when we first started evaluation, we thought this would be a concern too, but the real value is in the rich content storage, usability, sharing, access and search capability. We got over this issue of task transparency by making the assigned team members accountable to provide that transparency, updating the project status page as required.
The best way to evaluate Confluence is to start using it, tackling the critical risks of the organization. For us, it was the lack of transparency to knowledge content itself, and Confluence does a great job in that.

            I completely agree with Jussi!!

This request is analogous to why a single user needs the workbox: to have an overview of tasks assigned to him, instead of having to browse through all pages with potential task assignments. In a similar way a team needs to see an overview of tasks assigned to the team members. This is a no-brainer and I find it really surprising this is not implemented yet, even after one year this issue was raised. Can't see it being too difficult to implement either.

Tasks and the way they can be created in the pages is really neat, but the lack of this feature really makes it quite unusable for teams. A workaround would be to only put tasks to one page, which can be used to track progress, but you loose the context and all the power of assigning in the "flow" of writing the page (e.g. meeting notes and action items).

We are evaluating whether to start using Confluence, so I would appreciate some comments from Atlassian on why this does not seem to be a priority.

            Thanks,

This would be incredibly helpful — elevates Workbox and in-page tasks from "novelty" to "necessity".

We use Confluence for project management. We report to a manager, but collaborate on teams across many departments. This transparency is critical for visibility, planning, tracking.

            Thanks for listening,
            John
