Strange attachments when receiving mails in Lotus Notes 8.5.2

When receiving emails from Confluence, 2 strange attachments are added to the mail, (see screenshot attached). This behaviour only occurs in Lotus Notes and Apple Mail and cannot be reproduced in Thunderbird or through a Webmail client.

      Lotus Notes

The issue can occur when the "Keep in sender's format" option is selected in the Person document in the Domino Directory. Changing this to "Prefer MIME" resolves the issue. This can however lead to undesirable layouts from other email sources.

The issue may also occur because of preferences in the client. In the client, go to File -> Preferences -> User Preferences, and untick 'Show inline MIME images as attachments'. This can be done to all clients through a notes.ini variable pushed through a policy document.

fixed for me in 5.3 with CONF-26542 (used Lotus 8.5.3)
The described user preferences in the above description added by dunterwurzacher are also unavailable for me (because of enterprise deployed rules?! I'm not that familar with notes)

not a bug for me, because these attachments are the icons displayed in the HTML mail. Lotus not seems to "crop" them from the attachments list automatically like other mail clients do.. so perhaps a #improvementNotAbug

We are able to reproduce this issue with Confluence 5.3.1 and Lotus Notes 8.5.

After adding social functions to Confluence (with lot of avatars, likes, etc) real content of mail can be shifted below the view panel's viewport because of quantity of attachments. This is very inconvenient.

This bug affects up to 150.000 users within our Confluence site (v4.2.13). Please, provide a bugfix!
