It would be extremely nice if the contents of the PDF when exported included the syntax highlighting according to the language and theme specified for the code block. PDF is a rich document format and allows for specification of fonts, colors, and even backgrounds which is everything necessary to make the exported code blocks look significantly better when exported to a PDF.

[CONFSERVER-26029] Syntax highlighting in code blocks when exporting to PDF

            +1 from Continental

This is a much needed feature in our org where developers rely on Confluence pages to store and generate docs containing code snippets. May we get a proper and updated explanation from Atlassian why this issue is marked as resolved (or more likely rejected)? The previous replies are > 4 years old and I'm not sure if it's still relevant.

I found an answer (I believe) to my own question from Nils Bier at K15t:

"currently the syntax highlighting in Confluence is done in the browser using JavaScript. That's the reason the highlighting is not preserved in the exports. We are currently checking to solve this on server side, but maybe this collidates with the current meta-model. We are planning to change the meta-model in version 4.0 of our exporters (planned to be released in summer 2014).
            Hope that helps."

The above linked Jira issue NCODE-85 has been deleted from the Jira system, and cannot be read anymore. Can someone please explain why Atlassian will not support Syntax Highlighting in PDF Exports?

+1 to syntax highlighting in PDF/Word export

It would be a very useful feature. We use to write technical documentation in Confluence and often we export pages in PDF for distribution.
