Atlassian Status as of 20 December 2011

      Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your continued feedback on this issue.

As you can see, this issue was created quite some time ago, in fact a VERY long time ago on the scale of Web Browser development.

For a while now Chrome, Safari & Firefox have all had built in spellchecking, so as seen in the comments, this issue has become about providing support for Internet Explorer users.

For those that have been following the development of Internet Explorer 10, you'll know Microsoft has included spell checking as a feature in their recent Developer Previews.

Once released, this will give Internet Explorer users native spell checking functionality, at which point there will no longer be any long term value in having this functionality in Confluence. As such, today we are closing this request.

      Regards,
      John Masson

A spell checker would be really nice.

Autocorrection is super annoying - I one ticket - ten sentences and in each sentence Jira changes my words to different ones !!! I am typing eg. words / names / abbreviations which this autocorrect feature do not knows and it is silently changing it by just typing in... grrrrr !!!!

Please developers / PO - switch off this feature - which is making the life more difficult and causing extra work, extra time and causing Jira useless when writing anything in "local" language - which is the case for majority of WORLD !!!

I still would like to have Jira UI in EN, but ticket texts in local language, so please stop immediately doing this autocorrection !!!

            Hello,

I also would like to have the spell and grammar checker in confluence. That will be a great future!

I'd settle for my browsers to stop autocorrecting Jira to JIRA.

Would be great to have it on confluence!
Many of our users just attach ms word documents on confluence pages just because they need a spell checker.

I have had several request as well for spell checking. Because we are using Atlassian's hosted service, we are not allowed to install any plugins. We only get what they will install and support.

I personally have a mac and use its spell check feature; however, the majority of people where I work use IE because that is the primary platform for their own web software and am constantly being asked about this feature.

I would highly encourage the team to provide such a feature, especially if you are limiting your hosted users from utilizing any of the plugin solutions being described in this thread.

            Hello,

I just released a proofreading / spellchecker plugin for confluence. See https://plugins.atlassian.com/38540
It needs "After the Deadline" as spellchecking server but it integrates well into the rich text editor.

            Cheers,
            Leo
