Attachments on legacy pages and some nesting on the new editor have a broken "view-file" macro

XMLWordPrintable

      Issue Summary

On the confluence pages, uploading an attachment automatically inserts the view-file macro, which fails to render and shows an error instead of previewing the file.

      Environment

      • Confluence Cloud
      • Legacy editor pages/ new editor pages
      • Affected macro: view-file

      Steps to Reproduce

      • Open or create a page that uses the legacy editor.
      • Upload a file via “Files & images” or by drag-and-drop (try files that are not images - images seem to work as expected)
      • Publish or preview the page.
      • Observe the auto-inserted view-file macro where the attachment is placed.

      Expected Results

      • The uploaded file renders inline as a preview, or the attachment is displayed using a working viewer/thumbnail.

      Actual Results

      • The macro fails to render the uploaded attachment and displays:
Error rendering macro 'view-file' : Cannot render content of attachment

      Workaround

      • Or replace the view-file macro with a working, file-type-specific macro (for example, viewxls for spreadsheets).

      Notes

      • Issue observed consistently on legacy editor pages or new editor immediately after uploading an attachment (a xlsx file, for example).
      • The problem appears limited to the view-file macro; switching to another macro restores inline rendering.
