Emojis are not rendered correctly in Apps and Macros (starting from end of June 2021)

Issue Summary

Emojis are not rendered correctly in Apps (e.g. when exporting a Confluence page) and Macros (e.g. when displaying emojis in a table macro).

The problem started around the end of June 2021. Atlassian native macros are not affected.

We have been reproducing the issue on a few apps, but more of them can be affected.

Steps to Reproduce

1. add an emoji to the page
2. export the page

Expected Results

The emojis are correctly rendered in the exported document.

Actual Results

The emojis are not correctly rendered in the exported document and they appear as broken image.

Table Filter macro

Steps to Reproduce

1. add an emoji to a table
2. use the Table Filter macro

Expected Results

The emojis are correctly rendered in the macro.

Actual Results

The emojis are not correctly rendered in the macro document and they appear as broken image.

Workaround

Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
