It would be great to be able to roll up expand macros in the editor. Having large chunks of secondary text on the edit page makes a poor user experience.

For example, you can't see and review a list of items if one has a chunk of expandable text attached.

I noticed this update yesterday and was overjoyed but now it's no longer working today - Infuriating. Feels like having an arm cut off, it's that frustrating when working on a very long page made up only of tens of expandable blocks. @Alex K: Any idea why it might not be working any more? I'm on Confluence Cloud accessed on MacOS 13.4.1 and I've tried on Chrome 114.0.5735.198 and Safari 16.5.1 (18615.2.9.11.7), with and without private/incognito tabs.

Just noticed this improvement while working today, love it! Now shoving details down into expand blocks helps me, not just my readers!

            Hi everyone,

This is Alex from the Confluence Cloud team. Great news – we have now released this feature!

Thank you again for your suggestion to allow collapsing expands in the editor. Please note, that the collapsed expand is visible for yourself only (not propagated to collaborative editors) and the state does not persist after closing and re-opening the editor.

Even more puzzling, this works when editing issues in Jira Cloud...

+1 This would be very helpful for anyone who has multiple expands within a page. I personally use it to format multiple tables and struggle with having to scroll to a specific section of the page when they are all expanded. It would definitely help in terms of productivity.

I realized the suggestion was created in 2017, do you need any help to expedite it? You really have very patient customers, but it will not last forever.

When you are in a meeting for example and you are taking notes or reviewing a document, you would like to be able in the edit mode to use the expand macro, not just for readers, it is useful for the writers. It would be great to allow some settings such as default mode in view and edit mode for example.

The Expand element exists because the enclosed data is secondary and verbose, and showing all of it by default degrades the navigability of the page. This is doubly the case for the person who's editing the page, and it makes having to write anything substantial in Confluence a complete nightmare.

Code and header folding are common features for tech-oriented editors, and having zero folding capability in editing, even for elements  that are explicitly designed to be collapsed, is completely absurd.

+1 I completely agree with Kelly and Jim! This feature would be particularly helpful for power-users of Confluence who frequently work with large pages that have many expands. When the expand is forced to be open, it adversely affects productivity when editing.

I believe that this feature would greatly improve the overall customer experience.

:+1: It would greatly enhance the usability of this feature to allow users to collapse expand sections in Edit mode. As Jim said above, the ability to hide details helps to make the main points more visible, and this is no less important in edit mode.
