      Atlassian Update: April 30, 2019

      Hi all,

Thank you for your continued feedback and support on this issue.

We're currently doing some research to better understand how we can solve this problem and how organisations use groups. We'd love to hear from you if you are able to provide any more context on this topic. Your feedback will go a long way to helping shape the roadmap and solutions we build.

If you're interested, please email twalsh@atlassian.com and I'll schedule a quick chat with you.

      Regards,
      Tamarah Walsh

[CONFCLOUD-23015] Extend 'Mentions' to work with groups as well

Is there a way to link the team with the user group?

It's too tedious to maintain up-to-date same info in two different places

Sergei Valukhov added a comment - Is there a way to link the team with the user group ? It's too tedious to maintain up-to-date same info in two different places

We need the ability to tag groups - because otherwise there is no way to "bulk tag" guest users. Guests can't be in teams, they can be in a group - and therefore ability to tag groups is needed.

My use case: I create SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) on Confluence. I mentioned the user that need to be kept up to date with @ mention on the document so that they get the update notifications. It would be easier to create groups and manage them this way.

This would make things so much easier for us, some of our groups are VERY large, and it is TEDIOUS to have to mention 40+ users on pages, it is also looks terrible on the page. Suggesting we add them as Watchers is just as bad, again it's tedious time consuming work for medium size organizations where they may have to communicate updates to entire departments. Dummy accounts aren't a good solution as you are requiring us to use one of OUR seats to address an out of the box function that seems pretty logical to have available.

Further, requesting that we purchase an APP to resolve this is no better. There are a lot of great features within Atlassian tools, but it is constantly concerning that simple functionality is pushed off for features that aren't necessary. Instead of the new Whiteboard function I would have been happy with the dozens of issues that we all wish were addressed.

Appreciate you Atlassian, but it would be great to see the organization prioritize at the minimum at least one Quarter to JUST low hanging fruit like this for your long time users.

            Dear Confluence Developers/Product Managers,

How many votes do you need for this feature? Mentioning works with users and teams, you could probably easily add the groups to this list, and hundreds of users would be happier. This is an easy win.

Hi 👋 . My name is Yousef and I'm a new Product manager working on Atlassian teams experience. I can see that this ticket has been open for a long time and the need is definitely clear. We have been working on the Atlassian team concept for quite some time now and one of the stages we are aiming to reach is to combine groups and teams in most of the usage patterns like mentioning or assigning work to groups or teams. This is in our roadmap right now. Thanks for sharing your feedback and stay tuned for more updates about this feature!

In response to the Atlassian Update in the description field, on this 8 year old item, the context and the desired functionality are really quite simple. Currently, one can tag individuals in comments. But if one wants to tag a whole bunch of people, it is tedious. Let's say that 5 or more of those people are already in a "group" in Jira. Rather than @mention each individual, one could simply @mention the group and save a lot of time. And if one wanted to mention people across various groups, one could @mention several groups, covering a whole bunch of people. Not even sure exactly why groups exist, if not for functionality like this.

8..... years........and 673 votes. What exactly does it take, Atlassian??

You've given an update on this issue for the server product, and although it's a disappointing update, is there any chance you'll comment on this cloud request as well?

Can a feature be added to Confluence to send emails to @ mention group tasks. Currently we are only able to send email to individual users and would love to be able to send users to a group when a checkbox is checked on a page in dev to notify that the entire group that a task is complete.

Our goal would be to be able to tag groups of people within comments.  We would want to define groups of users (ex: team A and team B);  and anyone entering comments could tag that @teamA  so that they get an email.

I don't have a dog in this fight because this isn't a critical issue for us, but:

Whilst that workaround was free when Atlassian had a tiered license system, under their new system it costs several dollars a month for an extra user.  And if you have a lot of groups - e.g. team groups, project groups, etc - you'll need a lot of extra users and therefore a significant additional cost.

It's no longer a workaround, it's a paid-for add-on that you can't have unless you're willing to increase your costs.

@individual is so natural to notify someone.  Why @group to notify a group, is not enabled is disappointing.  From reading the comments it certainly is something many people have asked for, albeit in slightly different ways.

            Dear @mseager

We pay for a license based on the number of users (really should have a level between 500 and 2000 users license). If the users are in the system using crowd and I manage my users access to projects using groups and surely JIRA knows what User Groups are then why wouldn't JIRA/Confluence recognize those same groups when you attempt to mention them or assign issues to them. Yes, I know that there are plugins. I can write a script. I can use an issue field with a notification based on the group in that field (which seems a little redundant that the assignee would get two email if they are also in said group. You also restrict me from updating the assignee field to a group. Why though should I be forced to use a license to add an AD group.

            Hi @rkleinschmidt,

we are using a workaround for years now which is actually working great. Just add one user (with the name of the group) per group into your AD and add a group e-mail address as that users e-mail address. Then you actually have the functionality you desire for the cost of a few user licenses used.

            Best Regards from Munich

Hi Patrick - this does not work in our Cloud version of JIRA. I actually have a JIRA user that is a team email distribution list. My thought was exactly that - mention this user and the entire DL gets notified. It does not happen so (or at least did not happen a few months ago).

A work around for team groups: create an email account that forwards mail to all team members. Create in Confluence a user with that email address: when you mention this user, all team members will be notified.

This feature would be very helpful. I'm constantly having to @mention every person in my team as we frequently collaborate around Confluence pages. Could the email notification not just go out to the individual group members email address?

Hi guys. This will be a great addition, esp. since we have retrospective templates (and other recurring meetings) where the attendees are listed. Currently, this means @mentioning each individual team member for every single retrospective (and other meetings) to minute these. We had to appoint a permanent admin employee to manage all of this, which I think is a little ridiculous.
