I'm now doing my writing in cloud and need a quick word and character count. If you are a server user moving to cloud (by choice or by force) you might want to check out the solution I built. I need these feature and didn't want to wait (may never come). It displays a dozen other statistics like total characters, sentences, paragraphs, and syllables. Also statistics on average words, unique words, short/long words and the top 30 keywords.

As someone who writes quite a few blogs via Confluence - a word count feature would be nice. Sad to see that it was raised in 2007 and it is still not even being considered.

Today I found this Chrome extension that I can use in the meantime: [Word Counter Plus|https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/word-counter-plus/fpjegfbcdijjfkceenlfoehpcakfgldj?hl=en].

With the Word Counter Plus extension installed in Chrome, I can:

1. highlight text,
2. right-click,
3. click Word Counter Plus, and then,
4. receive a pop-up that tells me the Word Count, Character Count, Average Word Length, and Longest Word Length.

This Word Counter Plus extension is working well for me. Hope this helps many of us!

This would make my work a considerable amount easier and more productive. As a copywriter, word count is a big part of my job, and we utilize Confluence for all of our marketing projects. This tool would be so helpful and save me time! Sad to see this not being considered  

I think it would be nice if the request feature is addressed in text box first, that would address the concern of many people around. 

Thats a shame that this isn't being considered, we use Confluence for documenting text for iOS and Android release notes and they have character limits and we have to use word to create the text and then paste that info back into confluence not great for collaboration.

I just ran into a situation where this would be nice to have, and its disappointing that a feature that seems like it could be extremely beneficial to blog posts, and other works done a wiki isn't being considered. Hopefully someone will be able to come up with something to resolve this issue, or it will be incorporated in some of the related tickets like in #4011

While this suggestion has gathered significant interest, we're unable to implement all of the excellent suggestions you make. We appreciate the benefits of such requests, but don't plan to work on this for the foreseeable future.

This suggestion will be reviewed in about 12 month's time, at which point we’ll consider whether we need to alter its status.
