    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

We're upgrading our Atlassian Cloud infrastructure and, as a result, we need to temporarily remove image effects—like drop shadow and snapshot—from Confluence Cloud. When we make this change, images will still display but won't show any applied effects.

We'll try to have it up and running again as soon as possible, but can't provide a timeline at this stage. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please comment on this issue so we can follow up with you.

      Thanks,

      The Confluence Cloud team

[CONFSERVER-45537] Temporary removal of image effects for Confluence Cloud

@Mellissa_nHart ... yea .. I gave up on Atlassian for the drop-shadow feature a while back and just started using the styles tag within each one of my article pages to add the drop-shadow effect.

Use the style macro and add the below code --> {style

            img

            { box-shadow: 0 4px 8px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2), 0 6px 20px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.19); text-align: center; }

Now not only is the drop-shadow not appearing, but any attempts to add effects "kills" the page. The window will appear with a spinning wheel that doesn't go away. If you refresh or close the page, your uploaded image disappears completely.

It looks like this issue is still in place which is coming up on a year? Per Karl - I am experiencing this also:  "... I'm even seeing pages where in Edit mode, you can see the "curl shadow" effect applied to all images, but when the page is rendered, some images have this effect and some do not (on the same page). This makes the page look inconsistent to our external users (we use Confluence for the Help pages of our application)."

When will this the image effects removed feature will be returned? I use image effects for my documentation. Please let me know if there is an updated ETA on returning this feature.

Hi walter.buggenhout, I think we can safely say that image effects will be implemented in a different way in the near future, but you shouldn't notice any change on the front end when it's done.

Trying to complete work on image effects before starting the infrastructure work would delay things, so on balance we decided to push ahead with the infrastructure work and replace the image effects feature as soon as it's feasible. We'll update this issue as soon as we can.

            Hi,

I was pointed to this issue as I noticed image effects were gone on my Confluence site. Although I now understand why image effects are currently not being rendered, I am slightly puzzled by this issue. What is the relation between an infrastructure upgrade and disabling this rendering feature (just trying to understand the why)

Will the image rendering be implemented differently after the infrastructure change? Does it somehow block the infrastructure change? ... ?

Thanks for providing some context around this issue.

            kr,

            Walter

            Hi kburkum1,

As far as I'm aware, what you're describing sounds more like a bug than what we're talking about in this issue. If you're affected by this temporary removal, you shouldn't see image effects anywhere.

I'll try to investigate this further, and will comment on this issue with the result.

Related to the above comment, I'm even seeing pages where in Edit mode, you can see the "curl shadow" effect applied to all images, but when the page is rendered, some images have this effect and some do not (on the same page). This makes the page look inconsistent to our external users (we use Confluence for the Help pages of our application).
