NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

I'd like an easy way to expand or collapse content in lists and by headings. Use cases include:

      • Showing a high level summary of information to one audience without divorcing the summary from the details.
      • More easily reviewing an outline of information while focusing on the key points.
      • More easily navigating a page with an abundance of text.

For collapsing by headings, the Expando add-on exists, but it's not supported or available for Cloud.

For lists, the built-in Expand Macro does not work with the built-in lists. It is essentially impossible to build a contiguous list while using Expand Macros for each item.

      Suggestions:
Lists would either be collapsible by default or could be wrapped in a new macro that enables this functionality.
The user should be able to expand a single item or all items at that level in the outline.
Page editor should be able to designate whether a list is collapsed or expanded by default when viewed.

For an example of potential implementation of collapsible lists or outlines, see OneNote.

Are there any applicable workarounds available today?

[CONFSERVER-41809] Expand and collapse lists and headings

I wanted a document in my groups Confluence pages, but without collapsible outlining I'm doing it in OneNote.

Side note, I was using a collapsible outliner in 1984.  Framework for MS-DOS.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framework_(office_suite)

Outlining reduces the clutter on a page.  You can choose to only see what you are working on.  For the reader of a large document they can see all the high level topics without having to scroll through all the pages.

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude but I find the explanation for not implementing it not satisfactory.
Lack of demand? I don't even understand why it is not a default.
Did anyone requested Headings to not have an arrow in the front to expand/collapse?
I believe it was available in Word 98, see: https://www.mymac.com/1998/08/microsoft-word-98-review/
            Can you please reconsider this?
            Thank you.

I'd love to see expandable sub-lists in lists on Confluence

For a really good example of this kind of function, see https://workflowy.com/.  A Workflowy add-on for Confluence would be incredibly useful !!!
