First of all: yes, we can use the "copy page" function and then delete content not necessary.
But: unwillingly this is not how a user works. Most of the content-writer likes to / are addicted to use C'n'P (Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V).

Old {section} and {row}/{column} macros had a big advantage: layouted Content was able to be copied selective.

so: It would be great to get a possibility, to "copy selection including applied layout"

      Might be implemented as:

      • copy a single section from a page with all columns
      • Ctrl-A not just selects the active layout column content but the complete page

Current known "workarounds": (not applicable to "normal" users!)

P.S: hope this is no duplicate, but can't even find any matching issue

[CONFSERVER-38592] Copy and paste (partial) page content including layouts

Layouts are already annoying to me due to the fact that they make diff views too large and hard to really see what changed. The fact that they also hinder copy-pasting a whole template page only adds fuel to the fire.

We have a similar situation as described.  We're have a slew of pages created from a template.  We also use tags and page property reports to show these pages in other places.  We've created a new template and want to upgrade the existing pages to use the new template.  It would be simpler for us to create a new page from the new template and copy data into the new template.  This can take a few days in some cases.  We'd like to be able to copy the new page into the old page and then delete the new page.  This helps preserve history and ensures tags are correct.  Users cannot add tags to the new page during creation or we would have duplicate entries which can mess up other automation, so there is an opportunity to forget to update the tags when deprecating the old pages.

I still have this need/ issue. I want to copy the whole content of a page including layout/ sections: I can not select the whole page i.e. all sections with Ctrl+A.

            Why is it resolved?

What a pity. It makes the layout feature much less valuable. I would recommend not to use it in this case.

From time to time I have to copy across confluence instances. Copy Page function does NOT help in this case! The behavior of CTRL+A when using page layouts is very unintuitive.
