      2. Click Insert -> Markup
      3. Paste the following script:
        | Day     | Meal    | Price |

            In my use case, I am facing this issue with Confluence 6.13.4. I agree with the previous commenters that this should not be considered as a minor. The issue not not being able to paste markdown syntax with tables causes a lot of frustration since you would essentially need to recreate the tables in Confluence manually with a copy and paste approach. With this issue, a workflow in which you copy regularly from Markdown sources to Confluence is broken.

            As a Confluence user, I would expect that the "Paste Markdown" at least supports the documented syntax  (https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/confluence-wiki-markup-251003035.html#ConfluenceWikiMarkup-markdownCanIinsertmarkdown? and https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/markdown-syntax-guide-776639995.html#Markdownsyntaxguide-Tables)

            In recap, with almost 4 years since the issue has been raised, there has been no progress. Would be great if there would be at least a decision whether or not this issue will ever be fixed.

            When will this be fixed? It's a major issue.

            I totally disagree that this is a minor issue. There are no other ways to enter columnar content into Confluence. This is MAJOR!
