[CONFSERVER-36789] Unable To add Inline comment in IE

You can force Confluence to insert a non-breaking space simply by inserting two spaces between a word.

From that point (and I concur this has only started happening within the past few days), it isn't possible to save an inline comment, even though you can copy the content to a new page and save inline comments (one or two before it also stops).

Even if you delete the entire contents of the page and then add back a single word or two, the page continues to throw up an error when trying to add an inline comment.

So, it appears a non-breaking space breaks it, and it stays broken, even after the non-breaking space is removed.

Curiously, I have found other users may be able to add a comment before they experience the same error.

            Odd.

We recently subscribed to Confluence Cloud. I've been experiencing very frequent failures of inline comments in the latest versions of both Chrome and IE with the message "Could not save the comment". This week we rolled out Confluence to more than 20 first time users I've hit this bug during both of our in-person training sessions. If Atlassian needs more detailed repro instructions, just let me know as we're very eager to see this fixed.

I am trying to make inline comments with Confluence 5.7 with MS Edge (browser in Windows 10), and I can reproduce the following:

            • make a new page
            • enter a line of text at the top of the page
            • with MS Edge, try to make an inline comment on one of the words on the page. Error message received 'Could not save comment'
            • With Chrome, make an inline comment on one of the words on the page. No error message received
            • Return with MS Edge - can reply to existing comment created with Chrome but still cannot create a new comment

We are having trouble with inline comments in Confluence 5.7 with with IE (v. 11 in my case). You should be able to reproduce the bug this way:

            • Make a new page
            • Enter a line of text at the top of the page
            • Below the line, make a list of tasks. The tasks must be assigned to someone.
            • With IE, try to make an inline comment in one of the tasks. Error message received "Could not save the comment"
            • With FF, make an inline comment in one of the tasks. No error message received.
            • Return with IE. It is now possible to make an inline comment with IE, provided that the comment is made in a task UNDER the comment made with FF
