NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

When playing an embedded youtube video, inserted into a Confluence page using the Widget Connector, using Chrome it does not have the fullscreen button. I have tested this in the reported 5.4.3 and verified it still behaves this way in 5.5.4

      Reproduction steps:

      1. Embed a Youtube video into a Confluence page using the Widget Connector
      2. In Chrome, navigate to the page and play the video
      3. There will be no fullscreen button in the bottom right corner

      Expected behavior

There should be a fullscreen button in the bottom right corner.

      Actual behavior

There is no fullscreen button in the bottom right corner of the video.

      Related Notes

      • The fullscreen button does appear using Safari and Firefox.

      Workaround

The workaround is to not use the Widget Connector, but embed the YouTube video directly in the page using the (disabled by default) HTML Macro

      1. Enable the HTML Macro
      2. Go to a page you want to have a YouTube video embedded
      3. Add an empty HTML Macro to the page
      4. Go to the YouTube video you want to embed
      5. Click the Share button in the video
      6. Click the Embed Tab
      7. Copy the full HTML code provided
      8. Paste that into the HTML Macro in the Confluence page
      9. Save the Page

Ah, except that we're on Cloud, and we don't have access to HTML Macro :/

Any thoughts for those of us who pay for Confluence in Cloud?

            Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the workaround. That will suffice.

            Hey tj5,

I did some additional testing, and there is a workaround that should do the trick (I've tested it myself in Confluence 5.9.5 with the latest version of Chrome):

            1. Enable the HTML Macro
            2. Go to a page you want to have a YouTube video embedded
            3. Add an empty HTML Macro to the page
            4. Go to the YouTube video you want to embed
            5. Click the Share button in the video
            6. Click the Embed Tab
            7. Copy the full HTML code provided
            8. Paste that into the HTML Macro in the Confluence page

Once you start playing the video, it will have the fullscreen button in the bottom right corner. I have added this to the top of the ticket as a workaround.

            Cheers,

We can't allow viewers to open the embedded youtube videos in full screen mode?

            Seriously?

Given the thousands of other issues we have open that are more highly requested, we won't be able to address this issue in the foreseeable future. Instead we will focus on bugs with a higher impact, and more votes.

Thanks for taking the time to raise this issue. As you are no doubt aware this issue has been on our backlog for some time now with very little movement.

I'm going to close this to set expectations so the issue doesn't stay open for years with few updates. If demand for this picks up, we will reopen the issue.

Present as of 5.8.4. Some older embed methods were recently deprecated by Google in favor of a new iframe embed, so this likely could use a refresh.
