Editing Office documents is not working in current official release of Firefox 29 (stable). This virtually makes the Office Connector unusable for us as Internet Explorer is disabled in our company because of security issues and Chrome does not support the Office Connector.
Aurora releases were available for quite some time by now, so for release date I expect a working connector for Firefox.

      Workaround

If you right click and select "Open in New Tab" a new (blank) tab will open and so will the office application with the document you requested. Note: This will not save the changes back to Confluence automatically.

It is still working for me, but I am on older versions of both Firefox and Confluence – Confluence 5.5.2 and Firefox 24.2.0 on Windows 8.1.

            Hi all,

I have the latest confluence 5.6.5, Firefox 33 and webdav 1.0.8 on MAC OS.
My Base URL seems to be correct (URL is http://confluence:8090/ and server.xml has the entry <Context path="" docBase="../confluence" ... )

Still, MAC open office opens but saves only to local disk instead of back to confluence.

            Can anybody help me?

            Thanks

Removing WebDAV 1.0.7, restart FF, and updating to 1.0.8 and restarting FF again, worked for me as well. Whew!

            Hi Robert,

uninstall WebDAV Launcher, click "Edit in Office" on a Confluence Page which contains an Word, Excel...etc., your Browser will ask you to install WebDAV Launcher, Version 1.0.8 will be installed. Worked for me (Firefox).

            Regards,
            Sebastian
