We have users requesting to be able to add vertically middle aligned text to images. For example, they want to add image icons and to the right of each add the name/description of an icon that is left AND middle aligned to the image. I've been looking for a way to achieve this and can't figure out how to do this at all but also need an simple way for non-sophisticated user.

An example of this kind of alignment (layout) is here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Confluence+User%27s+Guide ...so it seems there is way? (also attached screenshot of the same incase the link stops working at some point)

[CONFSERVER-32237] Ability to vertically align images in the editor

I just saw this post but i want to weight in on it regardless. Hands down, the single most irritating thing about your system is the fact that i can't do anything to vertically align images. The only other issue more irritating is that i can't tab Info macros and other's.

If I put the image and the text in different columns,* is there a way to add N pixels vertical space above* the image?

Yes: add a HTML macro above the image and insert the following code with one of the 0px's replaced by a suitable margin (e.g., 3.5 cm):
            <p style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px">

(It seems to me that 0px is the default, so you can also remove "margin-bottom: 0px;" or "; margin-top: 0px" completely, the one that you don't adjust.)

However, any macro always takes additional vertical space. Even with the above 0s the macro makes at least an 9.5 mm (= 43 px?) additional vertical space. I need less (but more than 0px). How to get that?

            https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf57/confluence-wiki-markup-701435350.html
            ! myimage.png|align=right, vspace=4!
(without the space after the "!" above and below)
Whether I wrote that directly or use Insert > Wiki Markup, the following happens:
I see the vertical space in the Edit mode but no longer in the Preview or Save mode!

            ! myimage.png|align=bottom, vspace=16,border=8,bordercolor=yellow!
"border" works (but the width is always 1 (or so it seems) if the border parameter is not 0; not the 8px as it should be),
bodercolor does not work (the border is always black),
again vspace works in the Edit mode but not in the Preview or Save modes.

I have Confluence 5.7 (Server). I tried both IE and Firefox.

Using Shift-Enter instead of the HTML macro I get 7 mm (32 px?) vertical space, but that cannot be adjusted (except by adding several Shift-Enters or so).

Thanks for the feedback. The example you gave was achieved by "left" aligning the image. It isn't actually vertically aligned, it only looks that way because the image is soo small... as you can see, here is what happens when I make it bigger: http://cl.ly/image/06003G0T2k3J

So currently there is no way you can do this at the moment
