In past versions of the code macro, long lines were wrapped up. This feature was implemented in NCODE-142.
The wrap up of the long lines caused a problem with a mismatch between the line numbers and the actual line. To solve this bug (CONF-23565) we removed the functionality to wrap up text.
There should be an option to wrap up text in the code macro. Adding a scroll bar may work on a web browser but it is not a good solution for PDF exports or print outs.
Affected version of the code macro plugin: 2.1.3.
Workaround:
Add the following CSS to the global stylesheet:

white-space: normal!important;
}

[CONFSERVER-31476] Code macro should wrap long lines
It appears this issue is not prioritised (created in 2013) : don't forget to "watch" and "vote" (top right of the issue under "People" menu) ✅
Was super frustrating not to have this, then I thought about how Google docs does this.
Just create a Confluence table with a single cell...then place 100% raw text, no formatting into the cell. voila!
This issue was created in 2013, Almost 10 years ago!! it has almost 200 votes, why is it still gathering interest and not being worked upon? what else do u need Confluence team? Seriously disappointing 
We're also plagued by this .... this ticket got created in 2013....seriously?
