Cancel the comment editor without a page load

The editor loads in dynamically but cancelling it afterwards causes a page pop. This is strange because the work required to generate it seems like it should be more complex/expensive than removing it.

I run into this when I either go to add a comment at the bottom of the page and then realise I should be replying to something above, or replying to the wrong comment higher and need to cancel and reply to the correct comment.
