    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

When using a newer version of Firefox, if you have installed the webdav connector add-on for Firefox and click on the link edit on office at the attachment screen, nothing happens. Additionally, if the WebDAV Launcher add-on is not installed, you are not prompted to install it.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Open a vanilla Firefox
      2. Go to a Confluence page with an Office Document
      3. Click Edit in Office (or go to Tools - Attachments and try to edit in office from there)
        • You should be prompted to install the WebDAV connector at this point, according to this document, but you are not.
      4. Install the add-on manually
      5. Try to edit the document again
        • Still, nothing happens, as thought the button or link has no action attached.

      Workaround

This behaviour occurs because the WebDAV Launcher has not been configured. You will need to install the connector manually, then configure it following this document. You will then be able to Edit in Office through Firefox.

      Hopes and Dreams

The behaviour of the WebDAV connector could be improved, to show an error or warning if the add on has not been configured. Our documentation indicates that the user will be taken to the download location if the add-on is not installed, so this should also occur.

[CONFSERVER-39197] Edit in office doesn't work in Firefox, if WebDAV Launcher configuration not being complete. Improve this to include a useful error for the user.

            Hi Karie,

Sorry for the delay in responding here, unfortunately we don't actively monitor this site from customers' requests. Sorry also if this is a little unclear - this is actually not a problem with the software, it is because the configuration hasn't been set up.

I've created a ticket for you in support.atlassian.com, our support system, and you should get an email with the details soon. In future you can raise tickets directly in that system, as that goes straight to our Support team and will get you a much quicker response.

            Kind regards,
            Denise

            I'm an OnDemand user.

I followed the referenced instructions, manually installing the add-on. I also already had excel open.

I tried using the Edit in Document button on the page as well as the Edit in Office link associated with the attachment. In neither case, did the feature work. (See attached Screen Recording 13.mov)

As a MAC user, the feature is completely broken. It doesn't work in Firefox, Chrome, nor Safari; I don't have access to IE. So, I'm not sure how this meets the priority of Minor when there is no workaround for this feature except to not use it.

This also started because I was trying to troubleshoot an issue with IE in that it didn't follow the instructions presented here:
            https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Editing+an+Office+Spreadsheet+from+Confluence

The user had to just save and reattach - it wouldn't save changes back to Confluence.

Can you clarify what this feature does? I have successfully followed the instructions RE configuring WebDAV. The edit button now works in FireFox. However, if I understand this feature correctly, the problem doesn't end there. My understanding of this feature is that I should be able to save the changes back to Confluence directly.

I have tried this feature in both FireFox (latest) and MSIE (v 9) - although I can open the Office document using the edit button in either browser, I can not save it directly back to Confluence. Note, I am not prompted for my Confluence log-in, as these instructions suggest should happen - https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Editing+an+Office+Document+from+Confluence

If I edit the document, I must save a local copy, and re-upload it.

I did some additional research which led me to this troubleshooting page: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Troubleshooting+Read-Only+problems+in+the+Office+Connector
The first 6 solutions were not relevant. As I am using Windows 7/Office 10, I tried solution 8 (variation on solution 7). That did not do anything for me in either FireFox or MSIE.
I might like to try solution 9 (Upgrade to Office Connector 1.14 - although how do I know if I already have that?)), but at step (a) I get a Java Virtual Machine error when I attempt to run the .jar file I downloaded; more importantly, I a haven't a clue as to how to carry that step (b) or if it requires a systems administrator to carry out. Solution 10 doesn't seem relevant. Solution 11 looks like a possibility, but I have the same problem encountered with solution 9, step b.

I have uploaded a screen shot of my Office Connector settings in Confluence.

            Thoughts???

The behaviour of the WebDAV connector could be improved, to show an error or warning if the add on has not been configured. Our documentation indicates that the user will be taken to the download location if the add-on is not installed, so this should also occur.
