      Description

When you copy paste a HipChat into a Confluence page the formatting is not preserved, it is in fact far from optimal.

FogBugz can serve as a good example of perfectly preserving HipChat History layout when pasted into a case.

Hi Sebastian, thanks for raising this one.

Can you give me some bit more detail about what you're trying to achieve? Just trying to understand the wider use case you have beyond the end result of you pasting a snippet into another app.

The wider use case is actually introducing Confluence as a place for easily and permanently storing know-how and results that may have been written down in other (web) applications.

Last week, we had a high quality HipChat discussion about the concept behind a library we're developing that I would have liked to simply copy paste into Confluence for documentation without having to rewrite or reformat.

Similar use cases might be copying formatted content from applications like FogBugz or Basecamp into the wiki.

We see these other applications mainly as tools for communicating during projects and the wiki as the knowledge archive, so copying content from these other applications to the wiki would be a typical usage scenario for us (we're currently evaluating Confluence as an alternative to our existing mediawiki based system.)

Thanks very much for the detail Sebastian, very helpful.

So is it fair to say it's only selected snippets you want to manually keep, rather than an ongoing automatic backup of all the conversations out of HipChat (or content out of other systems)?

Please add this, just the ability to easily paste small snippets of conversations into confluence would mean the world to us.
