NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

We are using Confluence and would like to send email-notifications as plaintext with the changed content.
Today this is sent with HTML (and not possible with plaintext), where the changed content is highlighted in green. As this is done with CSS in the HTML, emailreaders will not be able to translate this into plaintext, forcing our users to view the emails as HTML.

Our request is to get an email like this:

User [username] changed the page [page name]
      Comment: [comment]
      --------------------------------------
      - Roses are blue violets are green
+ Roses are red violets are blue
      And so are you
Loreum ipsum lori di sa dor
      - Ipsum la mi da sorium
      + Hipla dopla dei
      [...]
      --------------------------------------

Very much like the 'git diff' og 'svn diff'. Is this possible?

[CONFSERVER-23907] Changed content email in plaintext

I'd like this as well, or at least a short diff for large pages with table. Described our case in more detail here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-32820?focusedCommentId=1030425&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Acomment-tabpanel#comment-1030425

Are there any updates with this. Our stakeholders email server is blocking all Confluence notifications which undermines it's usefulness. Emails are being blocked due to 'double extensions'. It looks like the way confluence embeds pngs for styling is causing problems.

A plain text version would be a workaround.

Hi, our user's complaint isn't the HTML – the old notifications were in HTML as well. But you made a fundamental change in going from a diff-based format (changes at top with minimal context) to an in-line format.

Is there any way to bring back/switch to a diff-based format for change notifications? Possibly via a template?

Thanks for raising Herman, and others for commenting.

Unfortunately, we don't have any plans to return to having a plain text email setting so going to close this one off.

We are facing the same issue after 4.x upgrade. Email notifications are sent in HTML format adn this is causing few formating issues. Our existing wiki pages are designed using Confluence v3.x. New format (HTML form) is changing the alingments etc. We are looking for the solution on how can we revert back to old format? Thanks!

I would like this too. The notifications sent from Confluence are particularly horrible. Even just putting a link to an HTML version would help. Here's what a typical notification looks like in my email reader:
