Code macro removes all leading white space till first character

Using both 3.5.9 and testing on the 4.0 sandbox I still see the problem report back in 2008 in item:

where the code blocks strip all leading whitespace from the first line. This makes it impossible to properly format e.g. indented xml content.

Searching the database I found several issue from 2008 which claim to have been fixed but the exact same problem but it is still seen in the versions above:
